Danbury, Conn. – This past weekend was filled with collegiate esports action. The best colleges battled it out to secure a spot in the elite eight in Overwatch, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The top 8 in each game have officially advanced to ECAC Esports Invitational at HV Gamer Con 2020 which will occur on April 4th and 5th at the Albany Capital Center.  In Overwatch — RPI, Stockton University, Johnson & Wales University (RI), College of St. Rose, Farmingdale State, Catawba College, SUNY Canton, and University at Albany will be attending the live event. For Rocket League — West Virgina University at Potomac State College, Stockton University, Thomas College, Johnson & Wales, Syracuse University, Lousisana Tech, University at Albany, and Lackawanna. The stage for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will include —  SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Drew University, SUNY Canton, University at Albany, Sacred Heart University, Johnson & Wales, and NYIT.

University at Albany and Johnson & Wales are the only two schools that will be sending teams from each game to Albany. Johnson & Wales Esports Coach Aaron Colaiacomo commented on his program’s success, ““we are excited to see all our teams make it to the top 8 within our first year of our program. It’s an amazing opportunity to work with a university who believes in their students and are willing to support their trip to HVGC. We are proud to be one of two schools sending teams in all three games! Hopefully we can have a great showing in April.”
